What we get up to at a union meeting
I’ve never been to a union meeting…
I bet its all “comrade” this “brother” that…
So what’s it like?
Well a union branch reflects its members, and Cambridge University Unite is a fairly broad church, at a local level we are here to represent our members. Sure some people are more “political” than others but we haven’t tried to overthrow the establishment in a glorious socialist revolution, for months.
The branch meetings are good chance to see what’s going on around the university, and in the sector in general, it can be a real eye opener.
They are a chance to raise concerns you have about workplace issues, we cant help if we don’t know what’s going on.
Worried about coming back to the office, working from home, childcare, or any other issues you want to vent about branch is the place. (If you want to be more discreet contact one of your reps.)
Its not the most exiting way to spend an hour, but it can be very interesting, and yes I’m afraid some times we live up to the stereotype of “Pale, Male, and Stale”, but the way to change that so we can better represent the diversity of the workforce, is for more people to get involved.
So will you have to sing “The Red Flag”, and call every one comrade, no in fact you don’t have to say anything at all, though we would love to hear from you.
At the moment we have gone virtual and are holding our meetings on ZOOM, so you can be as socially distant as you like.
Come along and see us, what have you got to loose apart from an hour of your time.
