Friday Update 4/6/21

Serious stuff

It’s been all go on the Election front this month. We have had Zoom meetings with Sharon Graham, Howard Beckett, and a representative for Steve Turner.

A Huge thank you to all of them for taking the time to speak to us.

There is bound to be an official (proper grammar etc) announcement but as its already up on Twitter and our website

There is no harm in revealing that the branch nomination goes to Sharon Graham, whose impassioned address no doubt carried the day for her.

Having said that, all those who spoke to us over the past month, impressed so it’s worth finding out a bit more as there is still the Election proper to come.

How The BBC Sees it.

So if you think we have made a terrible mistake, get involved with campaigns for your favoured candidate.

REPS!

Talking about Elections, we have mentioned before that the three yearly reps and officers elections are coming (like nuclear fusion they seem to have been just round the corner for ages).

It’s a really good time to become a rep as the union should be set up for an influx of new blood.

Don’t worry about the elected bit; there’s never enough reps so it’s not like running for office.

If you are a rep consider finding out about some of the branch officer and specialist rep positions.

We are having a bit of a push on this at the moment so look out for various initiatives and taster events as we come out of lockdown.

We could really do with some of our younger members stepping up to remake the union in their image rather than ours, (we have an instagram account but I can’t remember how to work all the icons as they haven’t got writing on them, and i have to go and hide when anyone mentions tick tock).

LockDown

It looks like the momentum for ending lockdown is building whether we like it or not, with that in mind can we remind you that we are here to protect your rights, in these trying times. So if you’re worried about returning to the workplace, get in touch.

Risc assessment

The Regional Industrial Sector Committee (sounds like something from sixties bond films), sat the other day

The employers organisation UCEA has made a final offer of 1.6 percent graded between 1.56 to 3.6 percent to points below 22.

The view of reps across the region was that while no one liked the deal, there was little appetite for industrial action.

And there’s the rub we have a job getting members to even vote in a ballot, never mind support action. So if there is a vote on whether to accept or refuse the offer PLEASE make the effort to put the bit of paper in the envelope, otherwise we will be taken for mugs.
